The season opener at Happy Valley saw big crowds and a great night of competitive racing. Don Kong the HKSpeedKing again managed to find a few winners at good prices. A few fat horses went around and we will punt with more confidence in three or 4 weeks time when there's a few runs under their belts.
- Idyllic Wind rated 1.9 in the first and duly saluted at $2.80+ across several outlets. Lay betters were keen to lay this horse but the figures held up and it won with something in hand.
- Highlight of the meeting betting wise was the performance of Yeung Sing in race 4. Rated at $4.1 this bet was alerted to some followers at $15 and it produced a withering burst to win. Sp was $8 and $10 was available late for quite some time.
- Vara Pearl was very stiff in race 6. Missed the jump by 3 or 4 lengths and settled a conspicuous Last. Under vigorous riding from Moreira Vara Pearl sprouted wings in the last 200 metres and just missed.
Several other top rated runners performed well but were under the assessed odds and therefore no bets.
