After the Post -National Day at Sha Tin

Sssssssh.  Ex pat Aussie Not Listenin'tome scorched the turf to win the National Day Stakes. Don Kong the HKSpeedKing managed to graft out a small 2.8 unit profit on the day to keep the recent winning run going. We played a few long shots at $60+ that ran big races to place.

The wash up of the day.....

Race 1 - Brilliant Monkeys had been looking good on the training track and we thought he was ready to produce on race day. Monkeys did not let us down. He did however find one better with House of Luck staging something of a form reversal to tip us out in the first. Holy Star as our other bet and it was heavily backed late from 14's into 8's. Brilliant Monkeys 2nd, Holy Start 3rd. As the song says re: House of Luck " I wasn't expecting that.."

Race 2 - Our top rater Ashkiyr was unders and a no bet ( 2nd). Our only live bet was on Sergeant Titanium. The Sarge had a good trip but he folded like a cheap deck chair in the straight to finish last.

Race 3 - Real Generous was a one out bet and one of our two specials for the day. Missing the kick has become a bit of a habit for Real Generous and he didn't disappoint on National Day. Missing the start by 4 lengths it took the General 600m to tack onto the back of the field. Despair turned to joy when Real General powered home in the straight to record an outstanding win. The HKSpeedKing got on at $4.80 and $4 was easily achieved for this $3 rater.

Race 4 - Our other good thing of the day was in this race. Fabulous One had the speed figures in our database to destroy this field. 1200 metres the only question mark. This horse has always shown promise in the mornings and he finally produced a top performance on race day. Another $3.20 rater gets up. $5 everywhere, $6 if you were quick.

Race 5 - no bets

Race 6 - Probably should have avoided this race as it looked like it could go to any one of 8 horses. In the end we bet Popping Candy 3rd and Shining Champion 6th. The winner was Sensation a horse we rated a chance.

Race 7  - The National Day Cup saw a whole lot of horses with similar speed profiles but varying levels of fitness and polar opposite speed maps. We rated Super Jockey a $9 chance and it ran a huge race to finish second at an SP of $61. In hindsight we should have backed SJ each way. Our other speculator Tour De Force couldn't go the early pace and blew up at the 100m.

Race 8- Our top rater The Show won the race but we couldn't get him that short. We looked to take him on with Great Charm and Charity Kingdom. The best laid plans on mice and men......

Race 9 - We took on Contentment , the logic being he might want further. Wrong! A strong win. We backed  a few to beat him and our Hail Mary was Super Lifeline. Another big run by our second roughie for the day, 3rd at 100-1, 61 SP.

Race 10 - Blizzard was our top rater, but our map said he would race in the carpark the whole way around.  Blizzard did just that, and still won with authority. Unfortunately he was under our assessed odds and we looked on as he romped in. We bet a few others and in hindsight, shouldn't have. Note to self. Sit out when you like a horse but it is unders! #rookiemistake by a punting veteran
