A winning night at The Valley
- The night started with our top rated runner Smart Union winning the first and our recommended roughie Fresh and Fresh just missing but holding on to run the quinella.
- Races two and three were in the too hard basket, race 4 was the next betting race. Mr Ginger was our top pick and he ran a good race but he couldn't quite run down the leader Lovely Naughty who had a soft time of it in front. Star of Wai Bo with the 'Magic Man' Joe Moreira up finished off hard to split the pair in a three way go at the line.
- Race 5 we thought Ten Flames was a special, but there was good backing for Joyeux the top weight. Ten Flames rated at $2.40 and that price and better was freely available. Ten Flames responded well to Moreira's urging and recorded a good win. Not sure it can progress much beyond this class, but that's to be pondered another day.
- Race 6 we had the well backed Blocker Dee on top but it was under the assessed odds so we looked to another runner we fancied to get the prize. Imperial Rome had the speed figures to win this race but that went out the window when he missed the start by 4 lengths. Settling last and along way from his familiar on pace role, Imperial Rome got home powerfully to be beaten 2.5 lengths and record the fastest last 400m of the night. Blocker Dee looked big in condition and ran an encouraging second, finishing off his race well. The winner, General Iron was rated around his SP and he is a reliable performer at the class and distance.
Race 7 was a no bet race and we eagerly awaited our good thing of the night in the last race. Born In China had a speed figure of 115 in our database, comparable with horses like Amazing Kids.
Rated at $2.70, Born In China got out to $3.90 at the jump as a result of heavy support for the eventual runner up and Moreira mount, Divine Boy. Born In China powered home to win easily and record an outstanding speed figure of 115, equaling his best figure. A horse with a future. Sha Tin on Monday!
