I was quite keen on this card and was hopeful of a good night and a few dollars in the kick. The horses ran well for us and the figures stood up, we were just luckless. A common theme of late, but it will turn.

  • Five rated races, two top rated winners. One was under the odds, the other a nice overlay.
  • Of the advised bets we had five betting races for one winner and three seconds.

Meeting Summary

Race 2

Backed the top rater Kynam, who is now in the sack bin and $10 rated Hang's Decision who was given a good chance in the comments. Hang's Decision missed the start by 5-7 lengths, came steaming home to miss in aphoto, second. A protest got our hopes up but the result stood. $11 was easily obtained, for all the good it did. You can't eat odds.

Race 3

I was very keen on Accepted and the horse did the right thing. Rated at $2.30, Accepted was initially around the $2 mark but blew out steadily to get o $3.20 for 10 minutes before the race. My comments on the sheet for night were:

"The best horse in this with a big weight. Should win if gets clear running in the straight and settles mid to forward of mid."

E-Super, pretty well friendless in the betting was rated by me as the main danger. He ran a great race to get second at good odds. Rated $4.80, his win div was $11. A nice quinella result.

Race 6

Lucky Year the winner rated on top at $3.35 got to$3.40 on the tote but was never better than $2.90 fixed. A no bet. We backed two horses Peace N Prosperity who led them up and gave a good sight and Popping Candy. Popping Candy just missed at $11+ and the pain of losing to our top rater added salt to the wound.

Race 8

In retrospect probably should have been a no bet race as the track was deteriorating. We backed our top rater Sparkling Sword, second AGAIN! We also specced a few others in the $10-30 range and most ran well being just behind the winner.

Race 9

Was happy to spec Bubble Chic on the wet. He had won handsomely in similar conditions a few starts back. Bubble Chic did little and the night that looked so promising ended up a disappointment. Our top raters were all under the odds and the race was messy and Goodheart Success got the prize.

We win big we lose small. That's the plan. Now for the win big part.
