The Wizardofoz finally lived up to the hype and put away a good field with consumate ease. Blizzard had a much harder trip and ran on gamely for second after racing wide. Joao Moreira rides six winners. I rated New Asia Sunrise a $2 chance, we backed it at $7 and it was an unlucky third. Stopped twice in its tracks, New Asia picked himself up to launch a third time for third place.
A great day of racing, small profit.
Hardly a banner day but we finished ahead on mid price +1.2 or down -0.15 on SP. Our members would rarely be taking SP as advice goes out early as we attempt to find value.
- The last three meetings have been -2.75 +7.2 and +1.2
OUT: 15.3 IN: 16.5 + 1.2
1st - Aztec Empire
2nd - Forest Colours
3rd - Cruise Control
4th - Choice Exchequer
Race Note: Forest Colours 2nd was our bet. Moreira left his run too late.
1st - Gold Talent, didn't like it at all
2nd - Entrusting
3rd - Happy and Healthy
Race Note: An early move by Moreira wrecked High Warrior's chances and it dropped out to the rear.
No bets Races 4 and 5
1st - Right Call
2nd - Unique Joyful
3rd - Motif
Race Note: I made the wrong call here. Should have been a no bet rather than take on the Moreira favourite.
1st - Universal Union paid $8
2nd - Midnight Rattler
3rd - Lotus Breeze
Race Note: A nice overlay win as Universal Union rated $3.78 gets up at double overlay odds of $8
1st - People's Knight
2nd - Amazing Feeling
3rd - New Asia Sunrise
Race Note: New Asia Sunrise should have won. Lost all momentum twice in the last 250 metres. People's Knight had clear sailing, another Moreira winner.
No bets Race 9
1st - Sergeant Titanium
2nd - Victory Magic
3rd - Savvy Nature
Race Note: We got $7 the Sarge. On a Joao winner that was actually value #miracleinHK
1st - Thewizardofoz
2nd - Blizzard
3rd - Why Why
Race Note: Hunting for value we backed Why Why and Obliterator. They both ran good races for 3rd and 4th at $26 and $100 respectively. The wiz was simply magic.
